Senior School Boarding House Assistant

Firbank is seeking a compassionate and suitably qualified casual Boarding Assistant to join our fabulous team. Reporting to the Head of Boarding, Boarding Assistants are key members of the Boarding team and are jointly accountable for approximately 30 students from Years 7 – 12. The successful candidate will be responsible for the specific care and supervision of our students, as well as a shared responsibility for the general good order of the Boarding House and the pastoral and academic welfare of those within it.  This position involves shift work, including weekends and some overnight stays on a rotating roster. Accommodation is provided for overnight stays.Since 1909, the Boarding House has been an integral part of life at Firbank. Students from rural Victoria, interstate and overseas live onsite in Tovell House, our purpose-built boarding facility. This is a casual role at our Boarding House, commencing ASAP for the right candidate.Key Responsibilities:The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that boarders are safe, cared for, socially connected, motivated and valued.Ability to relate well to adolescents while maintaining professional boundaries.Be a role model for our boarders.Awareness of issues relating to Aboriginal, cultural and linguistic diversity amongst Boarding House students.Oversee homework, meal times, and bedtimes. Monitor the tidiness of rooms and encourage the boarders to maintain high standards of personal care.Ensure a clean and tidy environment is maintained throughout the Boarding House.Follow lock up and alarm procedures.Attend to administration requirements such as answering the phone, reporting maintenance requirements and dealing professionally with parent and visitors to the house.Deal with minor medical issues including first aid and basic dispensing of medication – recording any issues and incident reports correctly.Report any concerns to the Head of Boarding or Deputy Head of Boarding.Key Attributes:Display high degrees of empathy, patience, tact, discretion, confidentiality, and diplomacy.Commitment to establishing relationships and harmony with others.Flexibility and adaptability.Organised, self-motivated and adaptable to interruption from boarders, colleagues, visitors, and telephone calls.Exhibit professionalism and positive communication in interactions with the students, parents, boarding and school staff.Qualifications & Experience:Current Working with Children Check.Current Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA) Duty of Care accreditation.Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate (Desirable).Experience in, and commitment to, the education and pastoral care of Year 7-12 girlsCurrent First Aid and Anaphylaxis qualifications (or willingness to undertake training).___________________________________________________________About Firbank Grammar SchoolFor more than 110 years Firbank Grammar has been at the forefront of teaching and learning, providing exceptional education and outstanding opportunities to its students.
